At our Windsor hospital, our veterinary oncologist uses cutting-edge diagnostics and treatments to provide the best possible care to pets with cancer.
Advanced Cancer Care for Pets
Cancer impacts both humans and animals, and even the healthiest ones can be diagnosed. The good news: this disease can be treated with numerous advanced methods.
At our Windsor animal hospital, our board-certified veterinary oncologist is committed to providing the best possible care and treatment to pets with cancer. Working closely with other specialists and your family vet, we'll ensure your pet receives highly qualified care.
After your pet's medical history and diagnosis are reviewed, we will meet with you and your pet to discuss the disease, staging (additional diagnostics), treatment options and prognosis.
Board-Certified Veterinary Oncologist
To become a board-certified veterinary oncologist, a vet completes extensive training after veterinary school, focusing on oncology (how cancer develops and how it's treated). Training involves an internship and specialized residency, comprehensive exams and publication requirements for board certification by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM).
Staging (Additional Diagnostics)
If your pet is diagnosed with cancer, additional diagnostic testing with state-of-the-art equipment can help to determine the extent of cancer in the body, which allows us to target treatment options and better predict prognosis.
Treatment Options
Once staging is complete, our team of specialists will review appropriate treatment options. Cancer can be treated with several different therapies or treatment combinations, including surgery, immunotherapy, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapies or palliative care when appropriate.
Radiation Therapy
We are the only animal hospital in Windsor to offer radiation therapy, which delivers optimal doses of radiation necessary to kill cancerous cells without damaging healthy tissue.
